A system for low-volume laboratories

Laboratories situated in underdeveloped countries and satellite labs are often facing the challenge of limited space, as well as economics due to high-cost instruments. CellaVision® had received requests to provide a hematology testing-system that could better solve those challenges.

The aim was to develop a premium design that reflected the CellaVision® quality and heritage, yet with a tighter countertop design with simplified usability. By offering a new lightweight and more flexible system, these work sites can go from uncomfortable to spacious, while saving costs on a more affordable system.

Service safaris and mockups

By conducting contextual interviews at different lab sites, we gained first-hand insights on what challenges the biomedical analysts’ face during their daily work routines.

Physical mock-ups in scale 1:1 were crucial to simulate the usability and positioning of sample glasses along with design details such as chamfer sizes, color and trim. Our mechanical engineers and CellaVision® worked closely together to secure part and assembly quality, system maintenance and mechanical design of the product.

Your friend to rely on

DC-1 is the smallest and most user-friendly system in the product range, and is now perceived as “your friend to rely on”. The dynamic chamfer around the edge of the outer casing gives the product a modern look, while the light blue hue in combination with a semi transparent lid reminds of a system-quality as crisp and clear as an ice-cold winter morning.
